Should You Consider Dental Implants

Dental implants are permanent, natural-looking tooth replacements that serve as anchors for replacement teeth. At Red Rock Dental, dental implants are small metal posts of titanium surgically inserted into your jawbone to replace missing or damaged teeth. The jaw fuses to the small metal posts through a process known as osseointegration. This provides a very stable base to attach replacement teeth.

The Procedure for Dental Implants

The first step to getting dental implants is to meet with your dentist for a consultation to determine if you are a good candidate for implants. At your consultation, you will have X-rays and models of your teeth made so your doctor can choose the best placement sites for the implant posts. Dental implants are surgically placed into the jawbone through this surgical process. Once the surgery is complete, you will have a healing period of a few months before the prosthetic tooth is placed on top of the implant post. After the healing period and the permanent crown has been added, you can use your new smile just like natural teeth!

The Advantages of Dental Implants

  • They restore normal chewing function so you can eat whatever foods you want again.
  • They’re more comfortable than removable dentures. Modern implant materials and techniques have produced highly lifelike results.
  • They are easy to clean. You’ll have a complete set of teeth you never have to take out!
  • They look natural. Because implants are permanently attached to your jawbone, they won’t slip or move in your mouth when you talk and eat.
  • They are permanent and stable. Implants are solid and durable and will last many years with proper care.
  • Implants won’t affect your remaining healthy teeth as bridges can. Unlike a bridge, you won’t need to grind down surrounding teeth to support an implant.
  • They’ll help support your facial muscles for a more youthful appearance. Implants keep your jawbone from deteriorating. This can prevent wrinkles and other signs of aging from occurring.
  • You can improve your speech. Dentures can sometimes cause clicking sounds to occur while speaking. But because implants are fused to your bone, you’ll be able to speak more clearly.

Dental implants are a popular tooth replacement option, but they aren’t for everyone. Our dentist can evaluate your oral health and determine if dental implants are the right option.
